portrait not landscape?

I tried playing this game but I had a few major issues. First off, the game loaded in portrait mode instead of landscape, causing the entire game to become crunched. Then, when I started to play, I had to hold my phone sideways just to get the car to move. Why would the option to even have the game in portrait mode exist? I dont know, but it makes the game unplayable.
